Donaldson invests most of his video earnings back into video production. Each video costs him about $300,000 producing one video, up from $10,000 a few years ago. His stunts are very philanthropic. In his videos he gives away money to random strangers or buys them stuff. Sometimes, he even goes to the extent of adopting an entire shelter of rescue dogs. MrBeast makes $3 million per month from YouTube ads alone and that is exclusive of in-video brand deals.

Donaldson was born on May 7, 1998, in Greenville, North Carolina. He attended the Greenville Christian Academy and graduated in 2016. MrBeast began posting videos on YouTube when he was as young as 12 under the user name MrBeast6000. He attended college for a short time but dropped out to pursue YouTube full time. Earlier, his YouTube videos were mostly commentaries, reaction videos and funny compilations.

Donaldson first gained popularity after releasing the video “counting to 100,000” in 2017. In the video, he counts to 100,000 in a span of 44 hours. The video has over 21 million views.

He then did a follow-up with a video where he counted to 200,000. Today his YouTube channel has over 90 million subscribers and over 10 billion views. On average, his videos are viewed more than 20 million times. He has close to 12 million followers on Instagram, 9 million followers on Twitter and 13 million followers on TikTok.

In 2019, he was nominated for Vlogger of the Year at the Shorty Awards and he also won the Breakout Creator award that same year. He was also nominated for Favorite Male Social Star at the 2020 Kids’ Choice Award. Later that year he went on to win the 2020 YouTuber of the Year award. He also won the 2020 Creator of the Year at the Streamy Awards.

Donaldson hit pay dirt in 2018 when he began the practice of stunt philanthropy. In one of Donaldson’s most popular videos, MrBeast gave $1,000 to strangers. and millions of fans soon subscribed to his channels. He then later began giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars, and even $1 million.

In December 2020 Donaldson launched Beast Burger, an app, in partnership with over 300 restaurants around the US. The app became the #1 most popular free app on the platform and to date has sold over a million burgers.

MrBeast has donated and raised tens of millions of dollars to various charities. His stunt videos alone have donated to homeless shelters. He made big contributions to the Veterans Army Wounded Warrior Program, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital and a local animal shelter. In a video ack in December 2018, Donaldson/ MrBeast donated $100,000 worth of clothing and other items to homeless shelters.

Donaldson even partnered with a NASA engineer and YouTuber Mark Rober #TeamTrees. It was founded to raise $20 million for the benefit of the Arbor Day Foundation. The organization worked on planting one tree for every dollar raised. A ton of YouTubers came together to promote the cause. In the next 24 hours of launching, #TeamTrees raised $4 million. Soon enough they hit their $20 million mark and it only kept going.
